Watchmaking, fine and precision mechanics
Overview
In watchmaking, precision engineering and precision mechanics, one-off lubrication is required in the manufacture of many components. During the course of the product cycle, relubrication is no longer possible. For these cases, we have a range of products in our range that meet the requirements of lifetime lubrication. Our specially developed long-life lubricants are mainly based on synthetic oils and thickener systems that do not age over the years and have stable tribological properties. Thanks to optimized additives, we achieve minimal wear and constant friction values - even under permanent load. The right lubricant is selected in close coordination with the specific requirements of your application: Speed, load, temperature range and material pairings.
Microscopically small bearings, gears and guides require precisely metered quantities of lubricant. Our specially developed precision lubricants ensure optimum wetting with minimal use of material and prevent creep losses in sensitive systems. The challenge lies in achieving long-lasting and reliable lubrication with just a few microliters of lubricant. To achieve this, we rely on tailor-made formulations with precisely adjusted surface tension and viscosity. This enables the precise dosing of the smallest quantities, even in the nanoliter range upwards. This not only reduces material costs, but also prevents contamination of adjacent components by excess lubricant. This precision is particularly indispensable in the watchmaking industry and for optical precision devices.
Precision mechanical components must function reliably from -40 °C to +200 °C. Our synthetic specialty lubricants retain their tribological properties over a wide temperature range and protect against wear in measuring devices, optical systems and precision instruments. The challenge is that lubricants increase their viscosity at low temperatures and decrease their viscosity at high temperatures, thus losing their lubricity. Our solution is fully synthetic lubricants that exhibit extreme temperature stability due to their molecular structure. These products have a very flat viscosity-temperature curve and therefore guarantee consistent lubricating properties. In addition, they offer excellent oxidation protection and prevent gumming, which is particularly important for long-term applications in closed systems.
The uncontrolled migration of lubricants can lead to malfunctions in precision mechanics. Through targeted epilamization, we create defined zones in which the lubricant is retained or creeping onto optical lenses, contacts or other sensitive areas is prevented. The epilamization process is based on the application of molecular layers that specifically change the surface energy. These wafer-thin barriers are only a few nanometers thick, but are highly effective.
Running noise in precision mechanisms is often a sign of quality. Through the targeted selection and optimization of lubricants, we reduce frictional noise in gears, bearings and guides - for quiet, smooth running of high-quality mechanisms. Noise development depends largely on the friction characteristics in the tribological system. Our lubricants are formulated to minimize stick-slip effects and ensure a uniform lubricating film. By adding special additives, we can precisely adjust the damping properties of the lubricant.
We support your development projects from the concept phase through to series production. Our expertise in material tribology, surface treatment and lubricant selection helps you to maximize the service life and reliability of your precision mechanical components. Right from the early development phase, we work with you to analyze the tribological challenges and develop holistic solution concepts. In doing so, we consider the interaction between design, material selection, surface treatment and lubrication. In our test laboratory, we simulate real load situations and carry out accelerated service life tests. The knowledge gained flows directly into the optimization of your product. We also support you in the creation of lubrication specifications, the training of your personnel and quality assurance in series production. Our aim is to work with you to develop tribologically optimized products that are characterized by durability, reliability and outstanding performance.
