Moisten your hands and rub them slowly and forcefully on the handles of a Chinese "miracle bowl" filled with water, and drops will jump about 30 cm off up from the surface of the water. The water appears to boil. The walls of the bowl are only about 3 mm thick. If we have the right tribological parameters (hand moisture, pressure and speed), then we don't need a miracle. Stick slip causes the pan to vibrate. Resonance arises at the wave fronts. You can hear a low hum.
